Since the Cultural Bridge was first discussed in 2008, there have been many ideas and proposed solutions for how the lighting could be installed on the bridge. There were several challenges regarding installation and lighting, as it had to meet several wishes and requirements. Among other things, the lighting had to be non-glaring for the train driver. At the same time, there had to be sufficient light so that those using the bridge felt safe in both the late evening and early morning hours.

After several initial meetings, the parties agreed that LITE should make a design proposal for the construction of the guardrail, as there was a clear idea to combine the final guardrail with an integrated lighting solution.

When the design from LITE had been approved, LITE made a mock-up in LITE's showroom in Nørresundby, so that it could be presented to AK Belysning (Aalborg municipality's lighting authority, which would service the solution after delivery) and Strøm Hansen, who would carry out the task, as well as advisor on the project, to approve the final solution.

About the solution

The solution consists of a hand guard that is milled out of stainless polished aluminum. It is designed so that both the lighting and the electronics that support it can be integrated into the hand guard. All customized down to mm. dimensions! All the ignition units are equipped with connectors from WAGO so the solution is easy to service in the future.

The lighting solution itself consists of high-performance IP67 LED strips. The LED strips are mounted in an extra piece of aluminum to reduce heat dissipation and extend their lifespan.

To ensure even light distribution on the bridge, a specially designed cover from Induflex with asymmetric reflection has been installed. The cover is mounted in front of the LED strip, thereby providing a nice light distribution over the entire bridge.

The specially designed lighting solution on the cultural bridge has become what everyone wanted. The cultural bridge appears elegant and simple.

If you look at the bridge from the west side, you will see that the entire railway bridge has been given new life, as the structure is illuminated by the red reflection from the Culture Bridge.

We are convinced that the citizens and Aalborg Municipality will greatly benefit from the Cultural Bridge for many years to come.
